What tourist attractions are there to see in Guatemala, besides the Mayan Pyramids?
What tourist attractions are there to see in Guatemala, besides the Mayan Pyramids?
And what typical foods are eaten in Guatemala?
My mother is from Guatemala and she can answer this perfectly
Antigua
Lake Atitlan
Go check out the indian markets (tons of amazing clothes and purses)
Any of the beautiful mountains and Rainforests.
And while your down there visit Panama and watch where the Atlantic and pacific meet!
HAVE FUN!!!!

the mayan ruins are way cool, but the best ones (tikal and around) are in the peten region in the north and are VERY far away (by bus) from other cool places. take a plane to get there from guatemala city. tikal is a must see IMHO.
other than that…..
antigua is a tourist city with colonial buildings and losts of crafts and art. many spanish schools and the like. it is touristy for a reason. it is beautiful and is on the way to other places…..i prefer however (see below)
lake atitlan….all around the lake there are villages you can visit. some say it looks like lake cuomo in italy.
north of lake atitlan, it is solola’ (day trip for a market from the lake).
make sure you check WHICH day the market in chichicastenango (chichi) is so you can be there the day before….or just get there early…but then you may have to leave the town and find a hotel in a different city.
this plan of making sure you get there a day early (to find the hotel/hostel space and see the market setting up super early applies to all market towns)
north of "chichi" is nebaj and chajul. check the conditions before you go. intrepid travelers LOVE this place.
near huehuetenango is "todo santos" (get there the MORNING before this market day)
some very cool places are near xela (quetzeltenango). the town itself is famous for language schools. i was unimpressed with the town.
some say that livingston is great on the carribean coast. these peoples are not spanish but garifuna peoples. check out this place. i don’t know much about it.
have fun….
have fun.
