I heard i can deduct my vacations to vegas on my taxes?

My big brother Micky told me i can deduct my vegas vacations. Micky said he did it when he went to Barbados. His rational is if you answer blackberry pages, send emails or cell calls its deductable because you are using this trip for vacation purposes. The total cost of my vegas vacations is around 12k this year

You and your big brother are playing with fire. From the information that you have indicated in your question, and I see no way possible on how you would even think your Vegas trip is deductible. You mess with Uncle Sam’s money and Uncle Sam will mess with you. How can you prove this trip to be business related (deductible)? I hope you two get audited.

Where can I find the best deals on Canadian vacation packages?

I would like to plan a family vacation for four to Canada this upcoming year. What websites should I visit for good info?

Expedia is a good site to consider. Do you know where in Canada it is that you would like to visit? If so, I can provide you with specific Web sites for that region.

What are school sponsored tours abroad usually like?

This summer i am going on a guided tour of Italy with Educational Discovery tours via my high school. Does anybody know if while on the trip i will have a lot of free time? We got our itinerary but it seems like there would be time to go on your on or with friends… like can i get up early in the morning and go running? Or is it more confined and controlled?

I took that trip last year.

I’d say that about 75% of our awake time was all together as a tour group. We did have one day in Florence that was completely unscheduled – it was AMAZING!

Another thing I have to say: don’t count on running. It may be allowed, but…

(a) you stay up late and wake up early (between 6-8)
(b) you don’t know the area, and could easily get lost
(c) running just isn’t popular in Italian cities… you’d be the only one
(d) it isn’t smart to go out in a foreign country without at least one other person

You will have the time of your life!

Bring lots of spending money. Get a card so that you can use ATMs – it is a real LIFESAVER! The tour company usually offers them, but I got my own debit visa with $200 for the trip. Bring a camera. Bring lots of batteries. Bring "Tide to Go" – all that pizza sauce, you know. ;) Bring a converter if you plan on charging or using any electronic devices. If you see something you really want to buy, BUY IT! Even if it is overpriced due to tourism. I have been to many foreign countries, and there are many things I didn’t buy that I regret now. The world won’t end if you buy that adorable figurine with the italian flag, or if you spend €20 on a t-shirt that says "Ciao Bella."

HAVE FUN!
