What tourist attractions in Scotland do you recommend?
I’m doing a project on the top tourist attractions in Scotland and want to talk about the most interesting ones.
However, castles are excluded (I can’t talk about castles as someone else is already doing this topic).
Loch Ness.
Thats about it, oh they have some hills to look at.

There are a whole range of things to see in Scotland. Obviously there are the very famous things like Loch Ness and the Highlands (as well as Edinburgh Castle although you said you can’t talk about this). There are also the three big historic cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen as well as the ancient university town of St Andrews (It’s the 4th oldest university in the UK and the oldest in Scotland).
In Glasgow there are things like the Royal Concert Hall, some beautiful architecture, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (a huge tourist pull). In Edinburgh we have the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Palace (the Queen’s home in Scotland), we have the Georgian New-Town as well as the ancient Old-Town.
There are literally hundreds of things to see. These are just a few of them but you should be able to get more information about them online as well as more of the attractions. Try the VisitScotland website (I assume it’s visitscotland.co.uk) and there will be information on everything as well as contact details if you want further information on something in particular.

Although not immediately though of as a tourist attraction itself, The Caledonian Canal is seen by and carries thousands and thousands of tourists each year.
Yes it probably sounds pretty boring at first, (I can almost hear you saying ‘ who wants to know about a grotty old canal’?) but once you start researching it you’ll realise it’s history and the part it actually plays in tourism.
And as a topic it’s a bit different to the usual stuff (castles, museums, mountains, whisky etc).
You could present it as a guided tour and talk about the different places and attractions along the way, as if travelling from end to end.

I did a project on the canal some years ago as part of a HNC college course in Scottish tourism.
Also worked as a professional tour-guide.
I visited Scotland in 2007. I would choose these (however I did not visit all of these sites):
Loch Ness
St. Giles’ Cathedral
Robert Burns’ cottage
Iona Abbey
Isle of Skye
Culloden Battlefield
Writers’ Museum
National Gallery of Scotland
Hadrians Wall
