What are school sponsored tours abroad usually like?
This summer i am going on a guided tour of Italy with Educational Discovery tours via my high school. Does anybody know if while on the trip i will have a lot of free time? We got our itinerary but it seems like there would be time to go on your on or with friends… like can i get up early in the morning and go running? Or is it more confined and controlled?
I took that trip last year.
I’d say that about 75% of our awake time was all together as a tour group. We did have one day in Florence that was completely unscheduled – it was AMAZING!
Another thing I have to say: don’t count on running. It may be allowed, but…
(a) you stay up late and wake up early (between 6-8)
(b) you don’t know the area, and could easily get lost
(c) running just isn’t popular in Italian cities… you’d be the only one
(d) it isn’t smart to go out in a foreign country without at least one other person
You will have the time of your life!
Bring lots of spending money. Get a card so that you can use ATMs – it is a real LIFESAVER! The tour company usually offers them, but I got my own debit visa with $200 for the trip. Bring a camera. Bring lots of batteries. Bring "Tide to Go" – all that pizza sauce, you know.
Bring a converter if you plan on charging or using any electronic devices. If you see something you really want to buy, BUY IT! Even if it is overpriced due to tourism. I have been to many foreign countries, and there are many things I didn’t buy that I regret now. The world won’t end if you buy that adorable figurine with the italian flag, or if you spend €20 on a t-shirt that says "Ciao Bella."
HAVE FUN!
What are the pros and cons when it comes to tours verses own travel plans in Europe?
i am tossing up between taking an Italian 13 day tour with Trafalgar tours or doing it at my own leisure. I am a 34 year old female who will be travelling alone.
what are the good and bad things about doing a tour?
can anyone suggestion good tours?
With organized tours virtually everything is taken care of for you and you would rarely, if ever, need to stand in lines for entrance tickets, etc. You also have someone that you can ask questions of about the things you’re seeing or doing or help smooth out problems that might arise.
When you go on your own, you get to see and do exactly what you want. If you unexpectedly run across something that interests you like a local festival, it’s possible to stop and spend a little time or change plans entirely. Personally, I have no problems making my own arrangements and prefer independent travel. Every once in a while I include a day or half day escorted tour if it sounds interesting and would be harder to do on my own – like going to Cesky Krumlov for the first time from Prague. In that case, the tour included the old theater at the castle and I knew it would be difficult to get in on my own.
I’ve lived in Italy and have never had any problem getting around here on my own – even when I had first arrived. This really depends on your style and preference. Trafalger seems to be a reputable company. I’ve known a few people who took one of their tours and enjoyed it.

Don’t ask too much about the tours. I’ll get to it all in time.

Are there any snorkeling tours to cano island from quepos costa rica?
Me and my wife will be stayin in quepos in january 2010 and want to go to cano island and go snorkeling. Does anyone know of any tour companies that run that? If not, what is the closest place to jump on one of those tours?
Hi,
There was one, but I’m not sure if it’s still running. However, there are tons in Dominical, and if you were to take the tour from MA you would have to pay extra becasue the tour actaully begins in Dominical anyway.
So there are 2 things you can do. If you have a car, drive to Dominical and park where the tour office is, it’s very safe.
Two, you can take a cab there.
However, I would really recommend booking the tour before hand, you can’t just show up.
Hope this helps,

Is there any safe hiking and adventure tours close to Manila that you can do in a day?
I love taking hikes to places with beautiful sceneries and gorgeous picturesque places. I would love to see nature’s beauty in the Philippines but don’t want to travel far from Manila. Are there any tours or places that I can go that is driving distance from Manila?
Thank you very much for your help!
Mt. Makiling in Los Banos, Laguna.
Are people allowed to visit college campuses on days when tours aren’t offered?
I’m planning on visiting a few colleges in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland. I can’t make all the information sessions and tours, so I want to make sure I’m allowed to still tour the campus with my family.
Colleges usually have open campuses. If you want to take an informal tour, nearly every college will let you. Nearly all wouldn’t even know you were there (altho getting in to see a dorm might be a problems since those usually have security and locked front doors).
What tips can you give to a docent just starting out with historical tours?
I will be volunteering with some local Civil War era sites giving tours in costume. I am 20, female, and in college.
Speak at a moderate pace and enunciate your words.
Learn some little known, but fun facts about your subject.
If permitted, have a variety of information to speak about and vary your speech.
Don’t feel like you have to talk the whole entire time you are giving a tour and give people a chance to look around at what you’re showing them.
For the ladies, especially, learn about the dress of the period. See what you can find out about fashions for that time period. Don’t forget men’s fashion.
The more you know about your subject matter, the better you will be when presenting the information.
I used to work at the KY Horse Park giving horse-drawn tours and speeches to go along with the tours. It was great fun!
Why are the ATP and WTA tours played in loads of different countries at the same time?
I don’t understand the ATP and WTA tours because there are loads of little tiny tournaments in different countries all at the same time :S Why are they in different countries? What do the tours do/achieve? How do you know which one players are going to? (And finally) Are they optional? I
I don’t mean to sound bumb its just is really confusing :s Please try and help!
Tennis is truly an international sport. There are tournaments all around the world and for the most part, players choose which ones they want to play in. There are some that all players go to, like the four Grand Slams (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open) and Masters 1000 tournaments(men) or Premier Mandatory (women), but other than that, players choose where they want to play.
